Customers Problem:
The customer had a part in service that contained a strainer to prevent particles entering down stream equipment. The strainer had failed, but was screwed into a plate from the inside. To replace it would mean turning off the equipment for several days to strip down and re-build. They approached HDL for an alternative solution.
HDL’s Solution:
HDL established that on the other side of the plate was a pipe, which could be easily removed to gain access to the rear of the strainer. HDL then designed a collapsible strainer that could be inserted from the outside and screw into the holes. The threads were machined so that they were only concurrent when compressed together. This allowed the strainer to be fixed with downtime of only an hour.
